TWM is PNG’s expert in hazardous waste management. TWM operates PNG’s only approved waste transfer facility in Badili, Port Moresby and is PNG’s only multiple Waigani Permit holder.

These permits are effectively approvals from the PNG Department of Environment and the Australian Federal Environmental Protection Agency to export hazardous wastes to suitable facilities in Australia for treatment. TWM offers a full suite of hazardous waste services, including identification, packaging and logistics in strict compliance with all regulatory requirements.

TWM has recently partnered with CMA Eco cycle, an experienced mercury recovery and recycling company in Australia.

TWM sees mercury waste as a critical waste stream which can have a long-term impact on PNG’s pristine environment. Mercury is a toxic substance and significantly found in:

  • Dental and medical waste
  • Used batteries
  • Fluorescent tubes and globes used in lighting
  • Mining, gas and petroleum complex waste streams from mercury-based catalysts, activated      charcoal and sludge through to contaminated soil and mining ore
  • Fluorescent lamp and mercury lighting waste
  • Battery waste
  • E-Waste

With the support of CMA Eco cycle, we hope to increase the awareness of this toxic substance and its impact on the environment, whilst providing simple solutions on responsible mercury recycling.
